COMMENTS ON MONEY, REBATES, AND SOME OTHER THINGS.

We finished with 20 registered runners and 15 showed up. Two had excuses that I would consider "reasonable": Mark Nowling had an episode of acute gastroenteritis of unknown origin and Andrea Stewart had a family member who needed her attention. The other three did not call or write or there is only speculation. However, their names can be potentially employed as central characters in various short stories, scripts, or novels for submission to the Qu'est-ce que c'est? Writing Contest. (eg. "Bruce Sibley had never found himself in this part of town and suddenly the building took on a rather ominous presence." or "John Klarich quickly answered the phone and was stunned at what he heard!" or "Sean McLernon stared out of his living room window and realized NOW was the time for a different direction." These stories can be submitted next time and if judged worthy will entitle you to a complimentary entry to the next Qu'est-ce que c'est?

My goals were to put on a quality run that I would enjoy, you would enjoy, and have a minimum number of complaints.I also wanted to have the right number to create “community” out there on the run. Despite constant advertisements,"Bigger and More is NOT better." Most of my ideas regarding great runs have come from or been borrowed from the following influential race directors such as Alan Firth (of the NC Fat Ass), Claude Sinclair (of the Runners From Hell) and Blake Norwood (of the Umstead Endurance Run).

I had wanted to meet these goals while generating enough money to pay for the event. Breaking even is good. I like to do this without using “sponsor” money. I don’t like prostituting myself to the corporations. I would rather lose money instead. There looks like there is some money available for rebates!
